Easter Brunch

Happy Easter! It felt weird not being at home with family and friends and going to church yesterday, but thankfully my Italian friend Martina hosted an Easter brunch and we got to cook, eat and eat more. Everything was homemade and I was especially excited to taste Italian food cooked by an Italian! The whole event lasted from 11-5PM, which, as Martina says, is normal for an Italian sunday meal, especially for special events. The meal:

Appetizer: Mixed tuna and cream cheese bruschetta
First Course: Homemade tomato sauce with penne pasta and fried eggplant topped with fresh parmesan cheese
Second Course: Beef meatballs and arugula salad
Dessert: Chocolate cake with coconut shavings

O Chocolate em Lisboa

Wow, not that I had any doubts about choosing Lisbon for my study abroad, but if I did, it would totally be quelled by the fact that Lisbon hosted a chocolate festival this weekend. Of course I went but before I knew it I had chocolate overload..only had chocolate covered strawberries and a dulce de leche doughnut, but if I smell chocolate right now I’ll probably vom.

The festival was held at Camp Pequeno, built in 1892 when it was used as a bullring!

Here are a few photos from the festival, favorites include the chocolate people performers:

On the bus ride home, we passed some impressive graffiti. Lisbon is actually known for their extensive graffiti art. Check it out:

When I got home Diego and Giovanni, my Italian roommates, offered my some of their homemade chocolate salami, a traditional dessert made of chocolate and biscuits. I tried some and even though I was sick of chocolate I still loved it. It’s homemade, how can I not?
